Emergencies
Casey Orthodontics Is Here To Help
There are a wide variety of tools and appliances that our office uses, from metal braces to the customized Invisalign system. We understand that if something feels off, patients get concerned. Any time you have a concern with the way an appliance is behaving or something becomes loose, broken, or lost, contact us right away - even if you have a regular appointment coming up.
What Constitutes An Emergency?
What types of situations warrant an emergency contact of your local Warminster orthodontists? Any time you have a concern about what is going on with your appliances and treatment, give us a call. However, these situations definitely warrant contacting us as soon as possible:
- A Bracket Or Band Becomes Loose Or Broken - For treatment involving braces to be effective, the brackets are pulled tightly by the wires. If a bracket or band becomes loose, it may not be putting the required pressure on the teeth to move them into place. Call us if a bracket or band is loose or breaks.
- Discomfort From Wires - Braces are not always comfortable, and the wires involved sometimes irritate the mouth. Try swabbing the area with an eraser or cotton swab to gently move the wire. You can also cover the wire end with cotton or a little bit of wax. If necessary, the wire can be cut with sterilized nail clippers. If none of this works, call us right away.
- Separators Are Lost - It is fairly common for patients to lose a separator or two over the course of treatment. If this happens to you, contact us to see if it merits a replacement.
- Treatment Is Uncomfortable - It is normal for some treatments to be uncomfortable at first, and even sore and a little painful. Non-aspirin, over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen are acceptable to use, or try a warm cloth or heating pad to reduce soreness. If the treatment is unbearable, contact us.
